The Association for Responsible Mining, ARM, is an independent, global-scale effort, and pioneer initiative, created as an international and multi-institutional organization to bring credibility, transparency and legitimacy to the development of a framework for Responsible artisanal and small-scale mining.

To undertake this process, ARM has received funding from NOVIB and from CYTED, the Iberoamerican Programe for Science and Technology (www.cyted.org). RESPOMIN, the Network for Responsible Mining, will be coordinated by ARM in partnership with the University of Antioquia (Colombia) and the Foundation Amigos del Chocó, (member of the Green-Gold Corporation). This network involves over 30 researchers, practitioners, government officials and miner’s organizations in Latin America, who will work on the development of a draft framework for social and environmental responsibility applicable to artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM).

Setiember 2006: Standard Zero Consultation Process
ARM invites small scale miner’s organizations, NGO’s, jewellers, gold traders, refiners, government officials, academic researchers, international cooperation officers, consultants, mining company employees and workers, and all of those who are part of the supply chain of gold and precious metals produced by ASM, from mine to final consumer, or who provide support to ASM, to review this document and provide ARM (arm@communitymining.org) with your comments and suggestions (or leave a comment on this page) before November 15th, 2006.

May 2006: During the meetings of RESPOMIN and ARM in Medellin, Colombia, significant progress was made towards the draft of a framework for social and environmental responsibility applicable to artisanal and small-scale mining. The foundation of a Latin American Organization of Artisanal and Small Scale Miners will strengthen this international initiative.
