Hasta Diciembre del 2008, el sitio web del GECO ha sido una iniciativa principalmente Peruana, auspiciada y financiada por el Proyecto GAMA de la Cooperación Suiza, COSUDE. Al cierre de la fase 3 de GAMA, por no existir ninguna institución peruana decidida a llevar adelante esta iniciativa, "el GECO" se encontró en grave peligro de desaparición inmediata.

A fin de salvar el valioso recurso de información y comunicación para la minería artesanal que el GECO representa, Felix Hruschka (ex-asesor de GAMA) ofreció dar continuación al mantenimiento del presente sitio web. Esta propuesta ha sido aceptada por la Cooperación Suiza, transfiriéndole (inicialmente en forma transitoria hasta fines de junio del 2009) el derecho de usar y administrar el dominio "mineroartesanal.com" con todos sus sitios web alojados.

La intención de Felix Hruschka es, no solamente conservar la información existente en el GECO sobre la minería artesanal peruana, sino ampliar el alcance del sitio web hacía otros países y los demás continentes.

El principal recurso del GECO, como plataforma participativa, son los aportes intelectuales en forma de contenido (textos, noticias, fotos, etc.) publicado por sus usuarios.
   No obstante, como cualquier otro sitio web, el GECO también demanda recursos económicos para mantenerse: pagar el dominio, el servicio hosting, la conectividad, la actualización y adaptación del software, el desarrollo de nuevos servicios, etc.

Until December 2008 the GECO website had been a Peru-based initiative, supported and financed by the GAMA Project of the Swiss Development Cooperation, SDC. At the closure of phase 3 of GAMA´s phase 3, no Peruvian institution had decided to take over and continue the initiative; consequently "the GECO" was in serious danger to disappear.

In order to rescue this valuable information and communication resource for artisanal mining, Felix Hruschka (ex-advisor of GAMA) offered to take over the website and provide continuity to the GECO. The proposal was accepted by the Swiss Cooperation, transferring to Felix Hruschka (initially temporary until end of June 2009) the exclusive right to use and administer the domain "mineroartesanal.com" with all its hosted webs.

The intention of Felix Hruschka is to not only preserve all information on Peruvian artisanal mining already available at the GECO platform, but to expand the website´s scope towards other countries and continents.

The main resource of the participatory GECO platform are the intellectual contributions in form of content (texts, news, photos, etc.) posted by its users.
   However, like any other website, the GECO also demands financial resources to keep paying the domain, hosting service, connectivity, maintenance and adaptation of software, developing new services, etc.
